Armstrong World Industries, Inc. Finishing Operator Job in Millwood, West Virginia

Summary:Finishing Operator is under the supervision of the Production Supervisor. The operator's primary focus is to perform their work tasks in a safe manner following all safety, operating, and quality guidelines while ensuring that the Finishing operation keeps up with the demand of the product being produced and brought to the area on the conveyor.

Functions / Responsibilities

Responsibilities: Performs inspections of the PLO work area, including all equipment, the lift truck, and conveyor belts - looking for equipment malfunctions and potential problem areas. (i.e. oil leaks, loud motors, loose bolts, broken belts, etc.)

Operate the balers following proper operating procedures and producing a quality product.

Perform Start Up and Shutdown of the fiber line ensuring that the equipment is functioning correctly, safely, productively and effectively - ensuring minimum starts and stops of the equipment while running and performing the proper tasks and documenting completion on the Start Up and Shutdown task lists.

Perform work tasks in order to respond and meet the requirements of the company:

Required products are packed appropriately

All tools, packaging materials are: appropriate, acceptable and used correctly.

Properly package the finished product in accordance with Customer requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Report (verbally and/or in writing) irregularities, off-spec products, safety or security risk situations, accidents, breakdown of equipment and defective raw materials to the Production Supervisor.

Properly load bales into the proper trailer using the lift truck.

Complete required Packaging paperwork (i.e. Quality Control report for bales).

Periodically conduct Quality testing along fiber line following Quality procedures.

Trouble-shoot and problem solve when issues arise on the line.

Suggest modifications to production equipment to produce in a consistent manner so that finished products meet the requirements of the company, safety, quality and environmental standards.

Participate in all stages of the operation of packing equipment and routing correctly to the appropriate storage location.

Continuous observation of the product and process to ensure production of quality product and that equipment is running properly.

Train new Finishing Operators teaching the new operator the various work tasks of this position and following the established Certification & Training process (completing proper certification documentation.)

As necessary, Finishing Operator will be called upon to perform other tasks depending on availability/according to the requirements for production, quality, safety and environmen

Qualifications High School diploma and/or GED with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience working in a manufacturing facility. Must complete successful interview. Must meet pre-employment medical examination. Ability to adapt to a mineral wool plant environment for job safety and health regulations. Perform tasks independently, manage various responsibilities, and track and execute various written or verbal instructions. Qualified lift truck operator must be able to load and unload a trailer as required.

Physical Demands -Occasionally lift weights up to 40 pounds - wears proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). If driving lift truck, most likely operator will be sitting in the driver seat for multiple hours. If working at Baler or Shrink Wrap, will be standing and moving frequently.
