MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY Research Technician in MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Title: Research Technician (Biology; Dr. Michael Schlppi\'s Lab) Position Overview: The research technician will oversee daily operations of the Schlppi lab and run the rice transformation facility. They will assist in grant funded research, specifically: clone cold tolerance candidate genes from rice; establish and maintain a constant supply of embryogenic rice callus; and generate transgenic rice plants. In addition, the research technician will help the principal investigator with RNA-seq experiments, bioinformatics analyses, and data management. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Strategically organize the laboratory and maintain organization 2. Prepare buffers and solutions and autoclave sterile media and supplies 3. Update and maintain protocols and lab data on SharePoint sites 4. Isolate rice genes using genomic DNA and RNA as templates 5. Make plasmid constructs 6. Produce and maintain embryogenic rice callus on a regular basis 7. Assist with RNA-seq experiments and data analysis 8. Take care of growth chamber cultivated rice plants and roof top nursery 9.
