Position Summary:
The responsibilities of this position are to set up, read, and report the microbial QC testing of various sample types using culture methods that include direct plating, broth inoculation, and membrane filtration; also performance and management of environmental and / or deionized water testing, reading, and reporting. General lab and administrative duties.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Bioburden QC testing of raw materials, bulk products, and finished products using various culture methods including direct plate, broth dilution, and filter-culture. This testing is done for both the Biotech and Diagnostics Reagent Divisions. This includes culture set up, reading, recording, and data entry.
Assist with collection, set-up, and reading of environmental and deionized water cultures.
Miscellaneous administrative duties.
General lab duties including: pipet calibration, cleaning (including mopping of clean rooms and respirator training), maintenance of cleaning and temperature logs; biohazard disposal (ability to lift up to 50 lbs); raw material inspection / check-in; formulation and filtering of in-house media/rinse solutions.
Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Handbook and follows guidelines regarding safety as outlined in the AWAIR, Chemical Hygiene and Exposure Control manuals in accordance with the job.
Performs additional duties as assigned. Occasional driving between company sites possible (mileage reimbursed).
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma. Some college/technical school class work in the field of clinical laboratories (especially microbiology) preferred. Previous lab experience also beneficial. Attention to detail, organization, and data analysis skills are required. Computer entry and/or typing skills are desirable. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are beneficial. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and have good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to plan, organize and multi-task to complete assignments in an efficient manner.
Ability to work independently and with a team .
Ability to pay attention to details and perform at a high-level of accuracy.
Ability to learn and consistently execute laboratory tasks, using excellent aseptic technique.
Ability to act independently on routine assignments or projects.
Skill in establishing effective inter- and intra-department relationships as to be able to determine the appropriate actions to be taken with incoming samples and assist submitting personnel in a professional manner.
Skills in problem solving; including the ability to identify and appropriately evaluate a course of action.
Ability to communicate professionally, both oral and written.
Knowledge of safety and company rules and policies.
Ability to work hours that conform to standard business operations (7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.)
