Job Summary

The Senior High Yield Trader executes authorized securities purchases and sales in the high-yield corporate debt market, including leveraged loans and index derivatives. Executes trades in total return accounts for both Thrivent’s mutual fund and insurance company portfolios. Develops and maintains relationships with securities dealers, including sales coverage, traders, and syndicate desks. Provides portfolio managers and analysts with timely information about market sentiment, trading environment, volume, volatility, and relative value trade opportunities.

Compensation may vary above what is stated below depending on experience and qualifications if the scope of role expands commensurately.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Execute trades as directed by portfolio manager’s trade orders under best execution standards and internal compliance policies.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with securities dealers and counterparties including sales coverage, traders, and syndicate desks.

  • Provide relevant market intelligence, sentiment, and pricing information to portfolio management teams and research analysts.

  • Work closely with portfolio managers and research analysts to assist in developing and identifying investable ideas with a focus on relative value from both an issuer and capital structure perspective to enhance portfolio performance.

  • Provide primary market new issue information, guidance, relative value input, order management, and allocation.

  • Lead daily trading desk meetings and participate in all other high-yield research and strategy meetings.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree in finance, business administration, another related field or progress toward completion of CFA designation.

  • Five or more years’ experience in a high-yield trading or research environment.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in finance, business administration, another related field and CFA designation.

  • Ten or more years’ experience in a high-yield trading or research environment.

Additional Information

  • This position requires you to work on-site in Minneapolis, MN a minimum of 5 days a week.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $170,238.00 - $230,323.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
