Peer Vision for Mental Health Project Coordinator, Minot Vets for Vets in Minot, North Dakota

Job Summary Identifying as an individual who has served in and transitioned out of the military, the Project Coordinator of Vets for Vets will provide outreach and peer services to local former service members and military-identifying supporters who may be seeking to connect with others with shared experience in a comfortable, supportive space specifically for them. The Project Coordinator will identify as having personal experience of mental health-related concerns, and will use that lived experience as an essential component of their work. The Project Coordinator must be certified or willing to become certified as a Peer Support Specialist in North Dakota and be willing to work with a diverse range of former service members utilizing the skills gained through the combination of their lived experience and peer support training. Building connections with and among Vets for Vets participants, providing one-to-one and group peer support, education, and resource referrals, and maintaining/staffing the Vets for Vets office and activity space will be major aspects of the Project Coordinator position. Serving as an advocate for local veterans and military members, the Project Coordinator will help to develop this new program and job position, and will play a key role in supporting the growth of peer support for former service members and those affiliated with them in our area. Qualifications and Key Competencies

  1. Identifies as an individual who has served in and transitioned out of military service.
  2. Identifies lived experience navigating mental health and/or substance use recovery.
  3. Expresses an understanding of the principles and value of peer support.
  4. Has at least a high school diploma or GED.
  5. Has taken the applicable training and received Peer Support Specialist Certification in the State of North Dakota, or agrees to obtain such certification within 90 days of hiring (subject to availability of classes).
  6. Is able to work independently, while also working within the parameters and requirements of a grant-funded program.
  7. Is able to interact with many and varied individuals; works equitably with persons of all backgrounds, personal characteristics, and military experiences.
  8. Is comfortable doing community outreach, creating collaborative relationships with other community organizations, and serving as a representative of Peer Vision and Vets for Vets in the community.
  9. Is willing to accept supervision by a qualified Peer Support Supervisor and/or the Executive Director of Peer Vision for Mental Health.
  10. Complies with requirements of North Dakota Health and Human Services regarding background checks and disqualifying offenses.

Beneficial Additional Qualifications

  1. At least one year previous peer support provision experience, or documented evidence of internship or mentorship program participation.
  2. Previous peer support group facilitation experience.
  3. Applicable experience with supervision, staff leadership, or project management.
