Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal / Senior Principal System Engineer – Mission Planner (On-Call)​ to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test and Evaluation organization. This role is located in Mojave , CA.

The selected On-call/Casual Technical Professional will provide Test conductor/Test director training and qualification tracking, brief aircrew of course rules, weather, runway, airport construction, and NOTAMS, etc. Files, activates and closes FAA flight plans as required. Maintains certain aircraft and aircrew flight records. Coordinates airspace requirements with FAA and DOD agencies depending on flight profiles. Assists visiting aircrew with flight planning, briefing, filing, weather and local transportation needs. Serves as point of contact for incoming ferry flights coordination of airfield, tower, maintenance, and aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) operations. Investigates and analyzes new aircraft project requirements and operating problems and develops recommended solutions to meet company governmental safety and performance standards.

Principal System Engineer – Mission Planner

  • Must have a High school Diploma/Equivalent AND 9 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment OR an Associate of Science degree AND 7 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment OR a Bachelor of Science degree AND 5 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment OR a Master of Science degree AND 3 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience OR a Ph.D. AND 0 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience

  • Demonstrated experience with mission planning, execution, and debriefing

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Collateral security clearance within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Senior Principal System Engineer – Mission Planner

  • Must have a High school Diploma/Equivalent AND 13 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment OR an Associate of Science degree AND 11 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment OR a Bachelor of Science degree AND 9 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment OR a Master of Science degree AND 7 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment OR a Ph.D. AND 4 years of qualifiable related professional/military experience to include a background as a Navigator/Mission Planner, operations, flight test and/or training environment

  • Demonstrated experience with mission planning, execution, and debriefing

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Collateral security clearance within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mission planning tools i.e. JMPS, PFPS, AFMSS.

  • Experience with mission planning development/testing during a new aircraft developmental test program.

  • Experience as a US Air Force Pilot/Navigator/Mission Planner, US Navy or USMC Naval Flight Officer (NFO), or equivalent (Intelligence support to flight operations considered).

  • FAA Class III Medical

Note: The salary range is based on a full-time schedule and will be prorated to the extent the schedule is reduced

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300

Salary Range 2: $120,900 - $181,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
