City Of Montrose Part Time Animal Shelter Technician in Montrose, Colorado

POSITION: Part-Time Animal Shelter Technician

DUTIES: Under direct supervision, provides care for stray, abandoned and relinquished animals, serving the public in regard to animal shelter services. Performs data entry. Oversees volunteers, juvenile diversion workers, and community service workers. Clean the Animal Shelter and provide proper care for the animals. Assist the general public with questions. Assist with animal adoptions. Perform reclaims, stray animal intakes, relinquishments and other related shelter information using AnimalShelterNet. Educate citizens about animal welfare and animal control laws and regulations. Conduct initial health examinations and administer proper vaccinations on incoming animals, administer medication to animals as prescribed by shelter manager and veterinarian and assist with humane euthanasia. Maintain Google Sheets on all Animal Services. Complete paperwork and prepare animals for transport by 8:00 am each day. Ensure the Animal Control Officer has required information to transport animals to appropriate location. Organize and oversee the work of volunteers, juvenile diversion workers, and community service workers. Core beliefs are deeply held values and assumptions that guide individuals in the workplace. REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Six months training and experience in the care of animals, or experience in a similar position. Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a genuine liking for animals and concern for their welfare. Have knowledge of current animal control regulations, laws and ordinances and stay informed of health issues, new laws, and animal sheltering methods. Must work weekends and holidays as scheduled. Must assist with and draw blood from animals.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Certificate of completion in ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 and IS 10, 11 within one year of hire date. Current Colorado driver's license with acceptable record. Lift and/or move 50+ pounds frequently. Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens. Subject to many interruptions and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Exposure to outside elements, with walking in inclement weather. Frequent exposure to cleaning products including bleach, as well as other chemicals.

WAGE: $16.00 hourly

SHIFTS: 28 hour per week with a varied schedule that includes weekends and holiday
