Project Coordinator-Disaster Relief ORGANIZATION: Legal Services of Northwestern Minnesota (LSNM) is a non-profit organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income people and families in 22 counties in northwest Minnesota. POSITION: LSNM seeks a full-time Disaster Preparedness and Response Project Coordinator to manage and implement its new disaster preparedness and response grant. The goal of this project is to develop a systematic approach to prepare for and respond to the often-unanticipated legal needs of low-income individuals who have experienced a disaster in northwest Minnesota and to integrate a legal services component into the existing regional disaster preparedness/response plan. This position requires a highly organized, proactive, and compassionate individual committed to our mission. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in program coordination, exceptional networking skills, and a proven track record of engaging with diverse communities. LOCATION: Moorhead/Alexandria/Bemidji/Hybrid RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide outreach and training to key stakeholders about legal services to disaster victims; and to develop and implement a comprehensive disaster legal response plan through collaboration with local, regional, and statewide partners. The responsibilities also include coordinating with and reporting all work done under the grant. Significant travel throughout the region is required to meet with stakeholders and conduct outreach, training and workshops on disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. Responsibilities also include developing training materials, organizing and facilitating workshops, training sessions, and community outreach events. Under the supervision of the Executive Director and in close cooperation with the Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator, the Disaster Preparedness and Response Project Coordinator will: Participate in local, regional, and statewide disaster planning and recovery committees and meetings and explain LSNM s work to the existing disaster response community and network. Provide input and guidance to disaster response partners on integrating legal services into their disaster response plans and protocols. Arrange presentations at community education and partner events about legal aid s role in disaster response. Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, legal professionals, volunteers, and other stakeholders. Identify and engage with communities affected by disasters to assess their legal needs and provide appropriate assistance. Organize and conduct regular training sessions for legal aid staff and pro bono attorneys on disaster legal issues and response protocols. Implement a comprehensive plan to expand outreach and community education efforts to raise awareness of disaster legal services and resources among vulnerable populations. Collaborate with grant partners and participate in the broader disaster legal aid community to enhance service delivery and share best practices. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor s Degree in a relevant discipline, (e.g., Social Sciences, Communications, Public Administration, or Legal Studies) or equivalent experience, preferred. 2+ years on the job experience or an associate's degree plus experience may be substituted for formal educat on requirement. Ability and willingness to work both independently and in a team environment; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse organizations and constituencies. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building rapport with a diverse range of individuals and organizations. Demonstrated ability to build professional partnerships with people in the community, human services providers, and community partners. The ideal candidate will have experience in disaster preparedness, response, and/or community engagement. Aptitude for technology with a demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and other technologies to support the work in this position. Good project management skills and a proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to travel regionally up to 30% of time is required; valid driver s license and properly ensured private vehicle required. Interest in the non-profit sector and issues that affect low-income people, and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace preferred.
