Knox Community Hospital Lead Coding Specialist in Mount Vernon, Ohio

JOB SUMMARY

Works in the capacity of a coding specialist with the responsibility of providing support, education coordination, and liaison to department management.  Accountable for conversion of diagnoses and treatment procedures into codes using an international classification of disease and the current procedural terminology.  Skilled in coding standards and practices as directed by state and federal regulatory agencies.  Ensures that records are coded in an accurate and timely manner.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary job responsibilities of the Lead Coding Specialist is to code and index diseases and procedures in compliance with the state and federal entities.  Accurately assign codes based on physician documentation utilizing coding guidelines established by the American Health Information Management and American Medical Associations. Abstract health data from the medical record as needed for hospital statistics and enter the statistics into the hospital's data repository accurately and timely.

Foster a team approach to decision making among coding specialists, Clinical Documentation Specialist, Patient Financial Services and the healthcare Providers.

Requirements Include

EDUCATION AND WOK EXPERIENCE

High school graduate or equivalent.  Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology and/or certification in fields related to coding in an acute care facility and physician practices such as American Health Information Management; Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certified Coding Specialists-Physician (CCS-P), or Certified Coding Associate (CCS-A).  The accepted American Academy of Professional Coders qualifying certification are Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC). Two or more years' experience in coding with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and all CPT and HCPCs level coding manuals.  Ability to work with physicians in a collaborative manner.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the coding guidelines and conventions set by the international classification of diseases.  Comprehension of the current procedural terminology and directives established by the American Medical Association.  Basic computer skills.  Strong communication skills.  *This company requires applications for their positions be completed on their website.
