Roles and Responsibilities:

Assists Garage Manager in the direction of daily operations in all Garages.

Main Functions:

  • Supervises garage personnel (operators and depot force) to ensure that service requirements are met, and that work is assigned in an efficient manner to ensure safe, courteous, and reliable service for our customers and to ensure proper utilization of manpower.

  • Investigates, implements corrective action, follows up, and responds to customer complaints. Involves operators in solving problems with service. Reviews, recommends, and implements service changes.

  • Interviews, instructs, and disciplines agreement employees; conducts first step grievance hearings, discusses garage issues with union officials, provides documentation and testimony throughout the grievance process.

  • Investigates and implements corrective action on accidents, vandalism, and safety hazards.

  • Conducts, monitors, and verifies all agreement payrolls. Ensures that all ticket sales, ticket tokens, petty cash and other media are in balance. Processes all shortages.

  • Administers new schedule picks, wage progression and other personnel functions.

  • Monitors GCS, and reviews reports daily for deviations in procedures or revenue. Counsels/disciplines operators and investigates/reports deviations to ensure consistent revenue collection.

    Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, and four (4) years of applied experience in transportation systems sector*, to include one (1) year of supervisory experience. Degree may be substituted for experience as appropriate.

    NOTE:Experience as a Depot Master is considered supervisory experience for the purposes of qualifying for this position.

    *Sector includes Aviation, Motor Carrier/Trucking, Maritime, Mass Transit and Passenger Rail; Freight, Military mobile operations as well as Postal and Shipping. Work must have involved the requirement to move people and or goods to and from locations, within established timeframes and deadlines.

    Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of NJ Transit applications and software.

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with agreement employees, Union officials, and all levels of Personnel within the Organization.
