Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in office management, accounting or bookkeeping is required.

  • Experience in higher education is preferred.

  • Experience utilizing an Enterprise Resource Planning System is also preferable.

  • The candidate should be competent with Microsoft Office programs including MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel.

  • The candidate must have a broad understanding of the various aspects of governmental accounting, preferably within the State of Louisiana. The ability to review other's work and identify and report errors is required.

Job Concepts

  • Conduct periodic reviews of existing procedures to assure adherence to federal, state and university policies and regulations, identifying problems and areas for improvement.

  • Coordinate daily schedules and department functions to ensure adequate personnel coverage and office efficiency.

  • Research problems, handle inquires, errors

  • Collaborates with other departments to verify adequate budget, required approvals, appropriate account numbers. Provide guidance as needed.

  • Classifies/codes a variety of transactions which may require considerable knowledge.

  • Reviews accounts, ledgers, claims, invoices, purchase orders, receipts, or similar materials for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Examines records to assure adherence to accounting laws and regulations; verifies calculations and ensures accuracy and validity of transactions.

  • Prepares statements and reports which require occasional searching and analysis.

  • Performs moderately complex posting, encumbering of funds, and balancing receipts of others.

  • Responsible for the development of processes, procedures, and training plans.

  • Maintain office conditions and process needed work orders.

  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as needed.
