Position Summary/Description:

The Carolina Virus Research Group is hiring a research associate into a leadership position to guide multiple projects studying pathobiology of emerging virus families with epidemic and pandemic potential such as coronavirus, flavivirus, and filovirus. The CVRG’s goal is to better understand the biology of emerging viral pathogens and develop new vaccines and therapies to stop them.This position requires an applicant with experience developing, designing, and executing vaccination and challenge experiments for lethal human respiratory viruses. The ideal candidate will have experience working with rodent animal models under biosafety 3 containment. Successful candidates should have a working knowledge and/or training in the fields of virology, infectious clone manipulation and virus rescue, immunology, molecular biology, and RNA biology as well as being capable of managing large multi-year studies requiring significant data analysis and working as part of a team.

Education and Experience:

Preferred qualifications include:

  • PhD in biology, virology, microbiology, or other related area.

  • Cloning skills, molecular biology skills, immunological assay experience.

  • Cell biology and cell-based assay experience/knowledge.

  • Ability to work independently and lead a project from inception to publication.

  • Experience conducting research at Biosafety Level 3.

  • Experience conducting virus challenge studies using animal models.

Essential Skills:

Required qualifications include:

  • Must have in-depth experience conducting virology research.

  • Must have outstanding technical, organizational, communication, and writing skills.
