The Position

Security Officers provide security for State buildings and occupants, enforce laws and apprehend offenders.

PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2023-11, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL DECEMBER 31ST, 2024. Please refer to the link for more information: https://gov.nv.gov/Newsroom/ExecOrders/Executive-Orders/ Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept. This is the journey level in the series.

The museum is an agency of the Division of Museums and History, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. Work is performed at the Nevada State Museum and off-site facilities in Carson City and northern Douglas County. The position provides security for on-site and off-site facilities, collections, property, personnel, and public during business hours and after hours. Security Officers will conduct interior and exterior patrols of buildings and grounds, observe and maintain surveillance monitors and museum alarm systems. Security will respond and report security problems twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week as scheduled. During rotation cycle, on call security carries a department approved cell phone for after-hours emergency calls. Security will assist with building evacuation during alarm activation and secure the facilities at closing. They will partake in security training and assist with the development of emergency response plans, policies, and procedures. Security will be posted at the admissions desk, and will be conducting visitor fees, offering customer service, and collecting visitor data during business hours and during special events. Security will also refer public inquiries to appropriate museum staff members and assist museum volunteers when needed. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in public contact work which included applying and implementing rules, regulations or established policies OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions required working on evening, weekends, and/or holidays.
