Job Summary

NOTE: This is a hybrid position, reporting to New Albany ,Ohio location.

Responsible for the correct adaptation and implementation of system standard protection, measurement, SCADA and control philosophy developed by AEP., Major enabling competencies for this position are: Adaptability/Flexibility, Planning and Organizing, Teamwork/Collaboration, Communication and Initiative.

Responsible for overseeing the management of Energy Delivery’s Protection and Control Engineering teams in the I & M region. This role involves handling Capital and Failure projects for the region, championing ED’s strategic initiatives such as Gen 3.0 DICM (fully loaded) and IDC (Design Automation), Optimizing Grid mis operations and customer outages and delivering on Compliance activities such as PRC-027, FAC-08, etc. This includes tasks such as project scoping, system protection and control design/engineering, grid fault studies, relay settings development, PRC/FAC-08 compliance activities and providing field services support for grid up to 500kV. Primary goal is to ensure a safer, more reliable and cost-effective grid for I&M customers.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Accountable for Protection, Control, Measurements and SCADA scoping/design/engineering/relay settings and compliance deliverables for ED’s station projects

  • Accountable for providing technical support to TFS for protection and control engineering’s deliverables.

  • Lead group responsible for performing system protection studies and developing station/line relay settings.

  • Lead group responsible for performing operations investigations follow-up as a result of suspected relay mis operations.

  • Manage quality control issues and coordinate with stakeholders, customers and partners to investigate and resolve quality problems as they occur a

  • Responsible for implementing countermeasures to prevent quality design issues from reoccurring on Protection and Control print issue.

  • Responsible for oversight, management and career coaching of first line supervision.

  • Represent PCE function on Station Engineering technical issues that arise with internal and external stakeholders that are beyond the scope of the first line supervisor.

  • Work with PCE Supervisors to manage workload of PCE team members

  • Provide technical direction and feedback to counterparts in other Protection and Control functions within AEP

  • Manage technical support and specifications for PCE equipment on special facilities (automated stations, SVCs, UFPCs, VFTs, DC-DC converters, etc)

  • Ensure that the ASPEN fault study cases are maintained across the NERC Region

  • Ensure that compliance policies and processes for settings and drawings are implemented consistently across the region and various supervisors.

  • Ensure that the PCE standards are consistently applied across the assigned project portfolio.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education : BSEE or equivalent field of study from an ABET accredited college. Registration as a Professional Engineer in any state of the U. S is preferred.

Experience: Ten years of experience in Transmission including 6 years experience in the design, construction and operation of protection and control systems.

Salary Range:

$129,963- $168,954.
