We are in search of a diligent Sr. Accountant for our non-profit organization, based in New Haven, Connecticut. This role focuses on the management of grants and general accounting support, with the flexibility of a hybrid work structure, allowing for two office days per week.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls and procedures for accounting for grants

• Reconcile grant-related accounts in the general ledger, making necessary adjustments to maintain accurate financial records

• Contribute to the annual audit process by assisting in the preparation of audit schedules, documentation, and support related to grants

• Assist with the month-end close process by creating journal entries and preparing monthly financial reports

• Perform general ledger account reconciliations

• Read funders contracts and perform proper accounting journal entries

• Manage around 20 different funding sources

• Utilize Excel for pivot tables and other functions

• Utilize Abila MIP software for various tasks

• Conduct a basic accounting assessment as required by the client.

Requirements • Proven experience in a similar role within the non-profit sector

• Working knowledge of Account Reconciliation and Balance Sheet Reconciliation

• Proficiency in Bank Reconciliations and General Ledger tasks

• Demonstrated ability in preparing Journal Entries

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• Familiarity with Month End Close procedures

• Experience using Abila MIP is desirable

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field

• CPA certification is a plus

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• High level of attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

• High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
