Overview

Art & Science is seeking a dynamic Assistant Director of Advising and Spring Admissions to join the Liberal Studies Academic Advising team. This individual will advise students in Liberal Studies on academic programs, providing practical information related to the curriculum and degree progress, as well as administrative aspects of course selection and registration; help students make informed decisions about their academic and professional goals; interpret institutional policies and procedures; facilitate access to University resources and support services when needed through appropriate referrals; and recommend special exceptions when relevant. In addition, this position includes advisement of a special population (spring admits); recommend action plans to students; develop communications plan, newsletters, orientation and registration training materials, as well as materials for events and workshops; collaborate with Admissions on program clarification; facilitate new student orientation and develop mandatory summer programming in tandem with LS Student Affairs; assess spring admits’ outcomes and experiences. Maintain new student database and advisor notes; review and approve preliminary evaluations of transfer credit and other forms of advanced standing; participate in student recruitment, outreach activities, open houses, orientations, information sessions, and admission days.



Responsibilities

Required Education:
Master's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or other appropriate field.

Required Experience:
3+ years relevant experience in student advising or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience:
Experience advising undergraduate students in liberal arts.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to advise and provide solutions to problems. Knowledge of standard office software (Google Apps, Microsoft, etc). Knowledge of advisement theories and practices, especially when applied to off-sequence student populations.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience with media management, including the development and delivery of newsletters, websites, webinars, etc.; and ability to support a high-demand population in understanding a non-traditional educational opportunity. Knowledge of program assessment is also preferred.



Qualifications

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $72,000.00 to USD $80,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
