POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Financial Aid Director or designee, at Borough of Manhattan Community College the successful candidate will be responsible for the CUNY Title Overview s listed below and additional duties which include but are not limited to:
• Maintain a financial aid applicant caseload; interview and evaluate situations utilizing some professional judgment.
• Determine student eligibility for the Federal Direct Subsidized Loan, Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, Federal PLUS Loan, and Alternative/Private Loans. Counsels' borrowers regarding loan obligations, repayment plans and the possible consequences of loan default.
• Consult with various college offices and external agencies to resolve related processing and payment issues.
• Assist in the development and coordination of financial aid in-person and online services.
• Represent the Financial Aid Office on various college and University committees as needed.
• Assist the Director and Associate Directors with special projects.
• Provide office coverage on evening and weekend rotations.
• Participate in campus-wide retention and persistence outreach and activities.
• Provide assistance with major college-wide events such as commencement, orientation, registration, and honors convocation.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM
• Bachelor's Degree required.
PREFERRED
• A minimum of one-year relevant experience in a financial aid or student services environment highly preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to providing quality student service in a diverse, urban college environment.
• Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations preferred and the ability to interpret and apply laws, policies, and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Proficient knowledge of MS Office Products such as Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft/Oracle information systems in a Higher Education or government environment preferred.
• Financial aid counseling familiarity preferred.
• Ability to work independently and under general supervision to provide courteous and accurate customer service to all students, visitors, and campus community.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Counsels applicants and students on eligibility for financial aid programs, assisting them in the application process.
Verifies eligibility for Federal and State financial aid programs including grants, scholarships, and guaranteed student loans
Performs application intake, evaluation, processing and awarding
Assists in the production of Financial Aid online, print material, and websites
Advises students on good academic standing requirements and the appeal process; reviews appeals for dependency overrides and budget adjustments
Conducts group workshops and represents the financial aid office at various on- and off- campus events
Serves as a liaison between the college office and Direct Loan Providers
Performs other related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $54,268 - $60,394; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
