Position Summary

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a full-time Senior Technician to join the Laboratory for Mucosal Immunology in New York City. Responsibilities

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Ivaylo Ivanov, the Senior Technician/Lab Manager will be responsible for lab management and management of a laboratory mouse colony, including gnotobiotic isocages, and will perform experiments in the field of microbiota and mucosal immunology.

  • Lab management and organization, including inventory and ordering of lab supplies and reagents, management of storage and equipment, and maintenance of lab records.
  • Maintenance and organization of the laboratory animal colony, including gnotobiotic isocages.
  • Animal sample collection, genotyping.
  • Assist lab members in performing experiments.
  • Generate and maintain detailed records of activities.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 1.5 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Experience with lab organization.
  • Significant research experience with laboratory mice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with gnotobiotic mice.

Other Requirements

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain detailed laboratory records.
