DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will be responsible for conducting intricate inspections within the Southeast Region to ensure adherence to the radiological rules and regulations set forth by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Your primary focus will be on progressing steadily towards fulfilling the requirements of an Agreement State radioactive materials inspector, which involves maintaining a detailed Qualification Journal to track your development. Additionally, you will be tasked with inspecting various radioactive materials programs to confirm their safe utilization in medical, industrial, and academic settings, all of which are licensed or in the process of being licensed by the Commonwealth. It will be your duty to pinpoint any instances of non-compliance and provide recommendations for corrective measures to bring about full compliance within the facilities. Furthermore, you will need to compile comprehensive reports based on your inspections and investigations, outlining your findings and conclusions regarding any conditions that could potentially impact health and safety negatively. It is estimated that around 30 percent of your working hours will be dedicated to preparing for inspections and documenting your inspection results.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Salary:Most selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,959 (before taxes). QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation, and control of radiation hazards and possession of a certificate of registration issued by the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists; or Certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics; or One year as a Radiation Health Physicist 1; or Two years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation, and control of radiation hazards and a bachelor's degree in health physics, radiation physics, radiation biology, nuclear physics, or applied health physics; or Two years of professional experience in the recognition, evaluation, and control of radiation hazards and a bachelor's degree with major course work in the physical, biological, or radiological sciences or in nuclear engineering, that includes 20 credits in health physics or radiological sciences; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement: This position requires possession of an active non-commercial PA Class C driver's license or equivalent.
