Professional Rank and Salary Range: SL-3, $60/hour

Duration: College Year (this position follows the academic year schedule, supporting Fall and Spring semesters)

Schedule Information: Temporary, Part-time, Approximately 15 hours a week

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville seeks a part-time Mental Health Counselor. The Mental Health Counselor will provide individual short-term counseling to students experiencing emotional and mental health challenges, provide consultation, case management, crisis response, outreach, advocacy, and referrals as appropriate. This person will deliver one-on-one counseling services by appointment. Our goal with this position is to expand outreach programming, and walk-in consultation services, while continuing to meet the growing demand of students seeking counseling.

The Mental Health Counselor will report directly to the Norwich Campus Director.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide clinical mental health counseling to enrolled SUNY Morrisville students experiencing mental health challenges: duties include short-term individual counseling, consultation, case management, crisis response, outreach, advocacy, group work, and referrals as appropriate

  • Refer to and consult with outside agencies as necessary

  • Serve as a valuable on-campus resource for mental health related crisis response, consultation and intervention as necessary

  • Provide consultation and training to faculty, staff, and other student services regarding psychological development and behavioral health issues

  • Implement and participate in campus mental health outreach efforts

  • Serve on campus committees which enhance campus life

  • Participate in annual campus events, such as Welcome Weekend

  • Engage in continuing education to stay current on best practices and fulfill/maintain state licensure and national certification(s)

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in counseling, counseling/clinical psychology, or closely related field.

  • Currently Licensed in good standing in New York State to practice counseling independently

  • 3+ years of experience as a mental health provider

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a mental health provider

  • Experience working in a college counseling setting

  • Experience with single-session therapy service model

  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally competent and sensitive mental health care to a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse population

  • Ability to work independently

  • Sensitivity and willingness to work with a diverse student community

  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
