About the Role:

We are seeking an Operations Manager who will be responsible for all operational KPIs, execution of standards, etc. of our seed to pack process. The Ops Manager will own all elements of either the Process or Pack side of daily operations in our indoor farms. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for leading, developing, and engaging a cohort of Team Leads, Machine Operators and Farmers in the operation and execution of daily tasks. To achieve this, Operations Managers are problem solvers who are able to interpret data, and deliver business results. They are self-starters, able to identify issues and implement solutions to correct those items. They are technically well-versed, able to understand automation and robotics controls on a high level and make decisions relative to meeting business goals in a timely fashion. You will operate in a multidisciplinary environment with engineers, computer scientists, agricultural scientists, retail, and other functions, and your work will meaningfully impact the evolution of the indoor agriculture industry.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervise a team of hourly farmers, machine operators and team leads in the execution of critical activities within the seed to pack lifecycle of Bowery’s products

  • Coach and develop Team Leads in their role managing hourly team members

  • Onboard and train new hires in Bowery’s policies, procedures and standards

  • Maintain annual and operational training documentation for all team members on your shift

  • Maintain overall responsibility for the performance of the shift, ensuring adherence to task requirements and overseeing the fulfillment of all orders on time, and in full

  • Ensure all required KPIs are met regarding goals on safety, production, quality, and costs.

  • Own SOP compliance; enforce consistent adherence to policies, procedures and expectations

  • Plan shift and work schedules for all production staff to ensure high efficiency & quality

  • Maintain production areas to ensure compliance with company quality, sanitation, and Food Safety standards

  • Identify and implement methods and practices to achieve operational improvements in efficiency, quality, delivery, and operating profits

  • Collect & analyze data in order to proactively identify production issues and develop plans and projects to resolve existing issues

  • Ensure equipment is maintained in line with expectations; ensure compliance to preventative maintenance schedule and the timely completion of work orders in partnership with the farm’s maintenance team and support groups in tech, controls and engineering

  • Provide a safe working environment by maintaining quality equipment and enforcing adherence to developed work practices

  • Ensure employees have the right tools, knowledge, and equipment required to do their jobs effectively and safely

  • Promote a culture of world-class performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality

  • Influence and drive improvements to the Bowery Farming production software system

  • Collaborate with leaders across Bowery in tech, engineering, supply chain, commercial and other disciplines to identify and understand operational opportunities for improvement

Who You Are:

  • You have multiple years of experience in a leadership role in a related field

  • You have experience in manufacturing operations or engineering roles with demonstrated ability to lead teams & lead change

  • You have a strong knowledge of warehouse management systems

  • You understand continuous improvement methodologies, up to and including Lean & Six Sigma process improvement techniques

  • You have experience managing an OSHA compliance program

  • You understand how to drive a culture of learning and development in a fast-paced environment

  • You possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, and management skills

  • You are capable of mentoring and coaching a team with diverse levels of expertise

  • You have the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers

  • You demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

  • You are detail & process orientated

  • You have experience with farming and growing operations; food safety and production is a plus

  • You are willing and able to cover weekend needs at the farm, balanced with other members of the leadership team
