In the spirit of learning, innovation, and supporting our faculty's growth, the Instructional Designer will join a highly collaborative team of professionals in the Faculty Center for Teaching, Learning & Scholarship. This team is dedicated to developing programming that supports faculty throughout their careers. As an Instructional Designer, you will bring expertise in online learning design and implementation, while also reviewing and ensuring the accessibility of course content and organization. Your responsibilities will include overseeing program accessibility reviews, particularly the periodic assessments of online courses and programs required by Middle States Commission on Higher Education and NC SARA. You will provide essential support for SUNY Oneonta's online graduate programs, assisting in the expansion of existing programs and the development of new ones to serve learners both within and beyond New York State.
The Faculty Center for Teaching, Learning, & Scholarship (FCTLS) is dedicated to fostering effective technology integration in teaching and learning. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Collaborate with colleagues across the university to provide guidance on online learning, accessibility, copyright, and related instructional design topics during the course design and teaching process.
Work closely with faculty in the planning, designing, developing, and management of distance education course instruction using the University's Distance Education Policy and SUNY's Online Scorecard for Course Quality Review (OSCQR) rubric.
Provide training, professional development, and other programming to the campus community on serving online learners, accessibility, assessment, copyright, and open educational resources.
Create reference materials (help documents, how-to guides, videos, courses, and other similar items) that prepare faculty, staff, and students to use the University's Digital Learning Environment (Brightspace) and related technologies.
Support integration of third-party software, tools, and systems with Brightspace.
Facilitate the creation and delivery of high-quality online courses in Brightspace.
Provide technical support and assistance for Brightspace and related technologies.
Participate in distance education course reviews per university policy.
Continuously research and improve distance learning methods.
Participate in regular professional development opportunities to stay up to date with industry trends and educational technologies.
Recommend, promote, and support appropriate uses of technology for online learning.
Communicate all pertinent information general concerns with the Director of the Faculty Center.
Serve on committees as needed.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in instructional design, distance learning, educational technology, or related field.
Demonstrated ability to:
Learn new technologies and systems quickly.
Perform consultations or create training aids.
Work collaboratively in team-based environments and independently.
Strong communication and technical writing skills.
Must work effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
Additional:
Experience working in modifying or creating content in accessible formats for different mediums (Word, HTML, PDF).
Experience with Desire2Learn's Brightspace Learning Management System or another equivalent learning management system (or "digital learning environment").
Experience with Quality Matters, Open SUNY Course Quality Rubric (OSCQR) and/or an equivalent course review process.
Experience managing projects, curriculum redesign, or course reviews.
Preferred:
Master's Degree in instructional design, distance learning, educational technology, or related field and/or Three (3) plus years of teaching experience or in an instructional support role.
Experience training and working collaboratively with faculty.
