JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our Energy Markets team as an Energy Market Analyst.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Generation & Revenue Planning, the Energy Market Analyst will be OPG’s go-to expert for all things generation and revenue related in the Ontario energy market. Responsibilities will include preparing OPG’s short and long-term energy and revenue forecasts, analyzing the impacts of changing market rules and market conditions, and performing strategic analysis in support of negotiations with other market participants, regulators, and policy makers.
*KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES *
Develop the Corporate Energy and Revenue Plan:
Utilize advanced multi-area models to forecast generation mix and market pricing.
Incorporate various assumptions, including supply, demand, outages, fuel costs, new market entrants, financial factors, and emission limits. Support data research to simulate expected energy production for OPG and other market participants.
Contribute to forecasting OPG's revenues and scenarios for business planning.
Create Short-Term Integrated Production and Price Forecasts:
Generate forecasts for commodity prices like natural gas and coal, while keeping track of market trends.
Develop OPG’s Proprietary Market View:
Support the development and enhancement of processes and tools for crafting a proprietary market perspective, adapting to market changes and rules.
Conduct Market Analysis and Special Studies:
Stay informed about factors like government policy, social, economic, and technological trends that impact the electricity marketplace in Ontario and elsewhere, affecting OPG's business.
Identify opportunities to achieve and surpass OPG and Business Unit goals, both short-term and long-term.
QUALIFICATIONS
Four-year university degree in Electrical, Energy, Software or Industrial Engineering or an MBA.
A minimum of 6 years’ relevant working experience.
Requires experience to have gained knowledge of electricity fundamentals, supply options, physical power system operation and optimization, market rules, market dynamics, market behaviors and economic principles to produce robust forecast of generation dispatch, spot prices and forward prices in a competitive marketplace.
Proficient computer programming skills and experience with computer applications/software to facilitate business operations. Requires experience in data modelling, forecasting, sensitivity analysis and data analytics. Experience in using commercial software such as Power Bi, MATLAB and databases such as Microsoft Azure is an asset.
Highly motivated, detail oriented and analytical individual.
Strong communication skills (oral and written).
Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to develop relationships and work with internal stakeholders in various functions and at all levels.
Demonstrated problem solving, time management, and negotiation skills.

This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This position will be temporarily based in Toronto, ON until the move to Headquarters in December 2027.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
