L3Harris Systems Engineer, Naval Communication Systems in Ottawa, Ontario

About your next Challenge as a Systems Engineer, Naval Communication Systems :

Working as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team including hardware, software, and systems engineering, the candidate will be responsible for assisting with the development of engineering designs, integration testing, and delivery of marine and naval communications systems. Working through system and customer requirements, the candidate will be expected to become a subject matter expert in one or more sub-systems and drive the system design to a compliant solution.

The candidate will gain experience in the systems engineering process and an understanding of functional and allocated baselines. This will include system level as well as electrical and mechanical designs, including hands-on integration, testing, and troubleshooting of systems and components.

What will you do:

  • System Engineering activities for bids, contracts and products in the military / civilian markets for domestic / international customers ;

  • Creation of high-level conceptual designs, innovative, scalable, and adaptive solutions to complex systems;

  • Projects involving Interface Control Documents (ICDs) between system components

  • Systems studies and analysis;

  • Trade studies and engineering budgets (power, weight, design margin, etc.);

  • Identification of risks, write risk statements, and prepare risk mitigation strategies;

  • Analysis and tracking of baseline changes;

  • Design, implement and execute system test cases. Analyze and evaluate test results;

  • Develop technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors. Identify potential suppliers. Monitor supplier performance;

  • Industry engagement and trade studies for refinement of equipment specifications to develop optimal system solutions;

  • Preparation of equipment procurement specification;

  • Development of test plans to verify and validate requirements;

  • Vendor selection criteria and conduct vendor evaluations with established criteria;

  • Requirements elicitation and decomposition towards subsystem elements including subcontracted items;

  • Requirements derivation and development for subsystem elements;

  • Development of the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements;

  • Production of technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces and installation elements;

  • Support test, verification, and validation activities.

    Required Skills and Experiences:

  • Requires broad theoretical job knowledge.

  • University degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or any other related discipline ;

  • Excellent technical and presentation skills;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):

  • Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2/NATO SECRET security clearance.

  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
