Tamarindo Associate Director, PR & Communications in Oxford, United Kingdom

ABOUT THE ROLE

The successful candidate will take ownership of a portfolio of clients and will lead a series of PR and communication account teams to deliver strategic, high impact work. Skilled in messaging, positioning and all matters related to public relations and strategic communications consulting, they will be confident working with a high-level of autonomy and accountability.

A strong track record of client retention and growth is essential. The successful candidate will be responsible for the retention and growth of the clients within their portfolio. They will work closely with Directors to renew contracts and successfully onboard new business, directly supporting delivery against company revenue and associated growth targets.

The right candidate will be adept at building strong, trusted relationships with c-suite level clients and experienced in providing accurate, high-level strategic advice. They will be an empathetic leader, able to engage, motivate and nurture teams to deliver excellent work.

Working with other Associate Directors, the successful candidate will build out internal training and onboarding processes and oversee team engagement and retention initiatives to directly support the business build high performing teams. They will also support wider businesses initiatives where appropriate, for example supporting on internal communications strategies and community-led initiatives.

This is a permanent role and can either be full time or 4-days a week depending on candidate needs. In the communications team, we work on a hybrid basis with an expectation that an Associate Director will be in the office 2-3 days/ week unless other arrangements are made directly.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Account and Client Management

  • Own a portfolio of approximately 6-7 clients becoming the most senior point of contact for clients and the account team lead.

  • Be a trusted advisor for your clients able to offer quick and intelligent counsel under pressure.

  • Have a thorough understanding of client's business objectives and commercial goals ensuring that the communications strategy for each campaign support these objectives.

  • Always ensure the delivery of contractual campaign KPIs as a baseline account requirement

  • Lead proactive activity to deliver value to clients beyond contractual KPIs in line with their business objectives and commercial goals.

  • Lead on strategic, project-based work for clients including messaging and campaign planning.

  • Actively deliver high-value communications work for clients including crafting thought-leadership content, opinion-based press releases and delivering crisis comms or advice on stakeholder engagement.

  • Lead and support the account team to recognise and reinforce the benefit of delivering consistent, commercially focused campaigns that meet contracted KPIs and deepen retained client relationships.

  • Review work from the communications team to always ensure high-quality outputs.

  • Oversee client reporting, ensuring that the client understands the value of the work we deliver and how it is helping its wider business strategy.

  • Ensure all your accounts are run efficiently and profitably, in line with contracted hours, while delivering required value to the client.

  • With other Associate Directors, own the communications team resource planning keeping the tracking documents up to date and competently advising Directors on available resources

  • Support wider business initiatives where needed including internal and community-lead projects

Business Development

  • Own the retention and growth of your client portfolio, supporting key growth metrics for the business including life-time client value and average client value.

  • Pro-actively develop opportunities to cross-sell other Tamarindo products and services into your portfolio and engender the same proactive approach within the team.

  • Work with other team members to source and secure new client briefs that align with Tamarindo's mission and revenue growth targets.

  • Work alongside the team to refine and shape the service proposition that we present to existing Tamarindo clients and to prospects.

  • Work alongside other Associate Directors to ensure the team have what they need to deliver their best work including skills training, processes, and technology, creating a case for additional budget, where needed.

People Development

  • Directly line manage Account Managers and Account Executives through Tamarindo's People Development Programme, ensuring they get the right support and that they have clarity on the expectations of their role.

  • Proactively provide high-level counsel and advice to all communications team members.

  • Develop, implement, and update internal training initiatives and onboarding practices to support high performance

  • Play a key role in the successful onboarding of new Tamarindo joiners; supporting their skills development and helping to foster the right foundations in attitude and approach. Promote the Tamarindo way.

  • Foster a sense of pride in the delivery of client work and activity and work closely with our account teams – at all levels – to enable effective management and accountability throughout.

  • Support the senior management team to foster a learning culture in line with Tamarindo's values.

KEY SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

The right candidate will have a strong record of performance working in a professional services environment, exceeding targets, year on year. Specifically:

  • Excellent listening, communication, and negotiation skills

  • The ability to work accurately, autonomously and to a high level, at speed

  • Business acumen, strategic thinking, and strong analytical skills

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work on multiple work streams at the same time

  • A growth mindset and understanding of key business metrics

  • Empathetic leadership

  • Ability to work proactively and independently

  • An affinity to the global renewable energy and clean technology sector is essential. Experience working in or with this sector is desirable
