JOB OVERVIEW
GENERAL PURPOSE Work under the general direction of the Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) Director or designee performing complex professional and supervisory duties while overseeing the daily operation of the Day School so as to promote and secure the achievement of its pupils. Day school is a Rule 18 Interim Program accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education
SUPERVISION EXERCISED Provide direct, daily supervision of the Teaching staff.
SELECTION GUIDELINES Formal application, rating of education and experience, interview, reference checks, licensure verification, successful completion of a national criminal background check, successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, and other job related tests may be required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Fulfill the responsibilities of teaching as defined in Nebraska State law, and follow the Code of Ethics adopted by the Nebraska State Board of Education. Effectively apply professional competencies to meet the minimum standards as adopted by the Nebraska State Board of Education. Learn, apply, and follow all policies, rules, regulations, and directives of the Sarpy County Juvenile Justice Center (JJC). Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives for the juvenile and correctional community, coworkers, residents, and the general public. Supervise the academic integration with the youth's home school and exchange information to provide an appropriate school program to ensure a smooth transition back to the home school. Arrange for homework to be provided, picked-up, and returned. Establish curriculum based on the youth's current courses. Arrange for recovery of credit, if necessary. Provide the school with a transcript of completed courses or a written report on youth's accomplishments and a grade to date if coursework provided. Communicate with families/legal guardians, school staff, case workers, and probation officers regarding the youth's progress. Coordinate education progress of released youth with their home school and any new placement location when youth is released from detention. Coordinate the teaching objectives, materials, teaching methods, and means of assessment to be used by each teacher as well as maintain records relating to standardized test scores and course grades. Arrange for evaluation of youth's academic levels, when necessary. Provide teachers with school information regarding school work for which youth are responsible to complete. Discuss with teachers the youth's progress and any academic issues. Coordinate with yout 's home district and the Nebraska Department of Education to oversee the administration of the Statewide Assessments for detained youth and those enrolled in Sarpy County Educational Program (SCEP) and Day Reporting Center (DRC).
