About the role

The SHE Manager Leader implements, oversees, and adapts policies and programs to improve the organization’s health, safety and environmental performance, ensure it complies with current and future regulations and standards, and protect its reputation. The SHE Manager is also responsible for ensuring site security policy and management.

Key responsibilities include

  • Manage a variety of health, safety and environmental (HSE) activities (inspection, safety audit, routine and non-routine data evaluation for environmental, safety and health metrics and reports) to ensure that the organization complies with external HSE regulations and standards as well as internal environmental policies and HSE management systems. These activities may include: monitoring environmental performance and identifying risks or areas for improvement; conducting safety audits and on-site inspections to identify workplace hazards and unsafe equipment, working practices or working conditions; investigating environmental or safety incidents; preparing reports and recommendations; implementing waste management programs; developing and delivering HSE training programs; managing relationships with community or environmental stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures so that the organization meets established HSE targets (for example reducing accidents and injury, minimizing emissions, and recycling waste). This will include planning, implementing and managing programs to train employees in work site safety practices, for example, but not limited to forklift practices, fire prevention, lockout/tag out, fall protection and correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment, and other materials.

  • Monitor and evaluate the organization’s overall HSE performance to identify recurring problems; research, evaluate, and recommend changes to technology, equipment, systems, or processes that will improve the organization’s HSE performance.

  • Provide technical expertise and advice on HSE issues to functional or operational areas managers to help them manage their HSE responsibilities.

  • Maintain positive relationships with the local community, environmental groups, or other stakeholders who are impacted by, or interested in, the environmental and safety performance of the organization.

  • Keep up-to-date with proposed and actual changes in environmental regulations; so the organization’s HSE policies remain current and relevant. This includes the timely submittal, acquisition and maintenance of all HSE permits and reports to maintain compliance with governmental HSE requirements.

  • Lead, direct, evaluate, and develop a team of HSE professionals to ensure that the organization’s HSE strategy is implemented effectively and within established budgets and that the organization complies with all relevant regulations, laws, and standards.

  • Establish and maintain accurate record keeping of inspections, procedures and Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA).

    About you:

  • Vocational education in a technical profession

  • Master or technician with 5 years of industry experience

  • 5 years of specific experience in mechanical/electro-mechanical maintenance in a manufacturing environment (preferably food or process industry)

  • Experience (type):

  • 5 years of supervisory experience with a high level of mechanical aptitude

  • Proficient in Office applications and maintenance systems

  • PLC programming knowledge is an asset

  • English - basic level
