DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Assistant, you will be reviewing, recording, and processing surcharge remittance forms and documents related to applications and sales records submitted by Firearm Dealers throughout the state. Work includes verifying information received to determine completeness, accuracy, and compliance with rules and regulations, completing all required account adjustments and reviewing discrepancies with the firearm dealer, as well as posting information to dealer accounts after all necessary corrections are made. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reconciling information from the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS) dealer transaction logs with Surcharge Remittance Reports submitted by firearm dealers

  • Ensuring information is reported timely and accurately as mandated by law

  • Conducting audits of dealer accounts that are not compliant

  • Making recommendations to auditors for corrective action regarding non-compliant dealers

  • Researching status of each dealer’s account and providing proper information

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week

  • Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work;or

  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.

  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

    Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
