The Cigna Group Accounting/Finance Co-op - Hybrid in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Where You’ll Work

Come join our team as an Accounting/ Finance Co-Op ! As an intern, you will work as part of the Accounting: Accounts Payable team. This internship will provide a lot of opportunity for hands-on experience. The intern will be working with the Ariba Platform and Oracle Financial Systems. During the internship, you will have the opportunity to collaborate within your department and across the business while learning from some of our brightest and most innovative employees in your area of focus.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop a basic understanding of the insurance industry and the accounting concepts involved in summarizing and analyzing financial results

  • Primarily responsible for helping support financial transactions and decisions supporting Cigna's Shared Service model in both the Fixed Assets and Accounts Payable teams

  • On a quarterly basis will be responsible for helping support 10Q/10K disclosure analyses, both from a GAAP and Statutory perspective.

  • Assist on performance of quarterly financial control reviews and supporting the 302/404 Sarbanes – Oxley testing and related certification.

  • Assist in completion of significant special projects as needed to support departmental/enterprise initiatives. Includes partnering with Sourcing, Information Technology, Tax and other enterprise initiative representatives to complete said tasks (i.e. Property tax audits, W9- 1099 reporting, enterprise policy reviews, etc.)

  • May be involved in triage support regarding vendor invoice transactions with internal and external business partners upon request.

  • May be responsible for providing monthly metrics, reporting and analysis on invoice information to management and business partners.

  • A successful candidate will develop time management and communication skills while working in a dynamic team oriented environment.

  • Develop desktop procedures manual and assist on definition of SOP document content to be used for ongoing training and development.

  • This position will build on existing MS Excel and MS Access skills via the requirement to assist in the production of various monthly and quarterly reporting and analysis deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will be rising Senior seeking an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Understanding of accounting/finance concepts

  • Experience with the MS suite of products, Especially Excel, Word, and Access, a Plus

  • Highly motivated, good interpersonal skills, well organized and able to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Strong analytical skills, solid verbal/written communication skills

  • Ability to work under time constraints

  • Strong business sense and the ability to work in a changing environment

  • Experience with Oracle GL, Hyperion, or with a mainframe computer system is a plus but is not required

Additional Information

  • Location : This role can work from home anywhere in the United States. Co-Op housing will not be provided.

  • Schedule: You must be available to work 40 hours/week for 6 months. Working hours are Monday – Friday.

  • Compensation: For this position, we anticipate offering an hourly rate of $22.00.

One goal of this internship program is to prepare and identify qualified candidates for roles with Cigna post-graduation. Therefore, this temporary internship is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
