Position: PennDOT Senior Transportation Construction Inspector (TCI-2) -- Philadelphia, PA

Reports to: Project Manager

 

 

General Qualities:

  • Is a proactive Self -- starter.

  • Provides technical support.

  • Experience on PennDOT highway and bridge construction and rehabilitation projects.

  • Position requires 3 years of experience on highway and/or bridge construction inspection projects, along with the following certifications:

? NICET level II (Highway Construction) or PA Professional Engineering License.

? NECEPT Asphalt Field Technician,

? PennDOT/NECEPT Concrete Technician,

? Traffic Control (optional),

? Guide Rail (optional)

? Stormwater Management (optional).

  • Experience with PennDOT's ECMS and other document control software.

  • Knowledge of highway and bridge construction specifications, standards, materials, and work methods.

  • Can accomplish assigned tasks independently with minimal guidance from their supervisor.

  • Capable of developing solutions to problems.

     

Technical Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.

  • Monitor and document construction progress, procedures, materials, and work product for conformance with plans and specifications.

  • Prepare inspection reports on work in progress and completed work, including quantity calculations, and witness and document material testing.

  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.

  • Gather and maintain recorded documents.

  • Report to and provide support for the Project Site Inspector In Charge.

  • Be able to perform work independently.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

 

Educational and Professional Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is a bonus.

  • PA Professional Engineering License is a bonus.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and vehicle.

  • Must adhere to KSE and project specific safety rules and requirements.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and navigate through company internet-based systems.

  • Working usage of a company provided iPad.

  • English language skills, written and verbal, are required in this role.

  • Possess basic math skills necessary to perform computations for length, area, volume, and calculate items of work in proper measurement units.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and procedures.

  • Availability to work various shifts, including night shift and weekends. Overtime is often required.

  • Position is subject to seasonal layoff.

  • Work is performed in the field.

  • Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, walking along rough terrain, climbing ladders, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

  • Active participation in professional societies, industry organizations and local civic organizations.

  • Encourages professional training / classes to obtain additional inspection and safety certifications and licensing (self)
