Job Description
Our Diesel Mechanic 3 is responsible for performing advanced maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of diesel-powered equipment, such as ground support vehicles and machinery. This role involves diagnosing complex mechanical issues, conducting preventative maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and manufacturer specifications. You will lead and mentor junior mechanics, coordinate with other departments for equipment availability, and maintain accurate maintenance records. Additionally, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and operational readiness of diesel equipment essential for airport operations.
WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK AS A DIESEL MECHANIC 3
You like working as a team, toward a common goal
Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, including airport ground support equipment, ensuring operational reliability and efficiency
Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on a wide range of diesel-powered airport equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan
Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, understanding their operation and maintenance in airport ground support equipment
Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems within diesel engines and related equipment, ensuring safety and functionality
Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations while performing maintenance and repair tasks to ensure a safe working environment
Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to accurately identify and address issues with diesel engines and associated systems
Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work, including details of diagnostics performed and parts used
Physical activity may include:
Stand and walk for extended periods of time
Ability to lift 70 pounds or more
Be able to hear and respond to the spoken voice and to audible alarms generated by terminal environment
Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); Depth Perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); Ability to Adjust Focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
Qualifications
Minimum age of 18 years old
Advanced diesel mechanic certification
5+ years diesel repair experience, airport equipment
Proficient with diagnostic tools and software
Knowledge of hydraulic, fuel, and electrical systems
Commitment to safety protocols
Strong problem-solving skills, capable of independent and teamwork
Effective communication skills
Comfortable working with computers, mobile devices, and tablets
Ability to pass a drug screen
Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable)
