Manufacturing Engineer - NPD (PGH)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manufacturing Engineer - NPD will focus on use of tools such as Design for Manufacturability, Serviceability and Reliability, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and manufacturing process design to support roll out of new products and processes from Engineering through Operations. Primary focus on implementation of new products and process within Fulfillment and Industrial Scientific strategy. The Manufacturing Engineer - NPD will participate directly within NPD projects and support the development of standard process for NPD Operations Implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

  • Responsible for the application of PFMEA, Design for Manufacturability, Serviceability, Reliability, assembly line design, etc. Works with cross functional teams within New Product Development project teams to meet deliverables for manufacturing engineering

  • Leverages Fortive Business System (FBS) reliability program to apply FBS tools to help achieve exceptional levels of quality and ability to meet customer expectations through robust manufacturing process design. Expectations to utilize FBS tools and participate in kaizen activities

  • Supports and participates in work across other Operations team functions such as Oracle configuration development, Bill of Material (BOM) creation, Operational Applications design, and Sourcing Engineering

  • Responsible to support Staff Engineer for Assembly Line design for new products and processes, and Operational Method Sheet (OMS) creation. Works with Test Engineering team for setup and implementation of new test systems and equipment. Ensures manufacturing process meets expectations for quality, TAKT time and productivity

  • Provide support to sustaining new product roll out by applying reliability engineering principles within the first 90 days following market release

ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT

  • Reports directly to Staff Manufacturing Engineer

  • No direct reports

QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS & WORK TRAITS

  • Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and superior communication skills

  • Proven leadership in managing cross functional technical projects

  • Ability to foster teamwork through active communication and listening

  • Must show leadership skills, decision-making abilities, effective communicator, and creative thinker

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles

REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of manufacturing/industrial engineering principles

  • Ability to analyze data and recommend decision making

  • Experience or Familiarity with New Product Development process / projects

PREFERRED

  • Prior internship or educational co-op within a manufacturing organization

  • Lean / Six Sigma certification

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365

  • Experience with JIRA preferred but not required

  • Understanding of Engineering document control systems

  • Experience with Oracle preferred but not required

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering preferred, other engineering disciplines considered
