Senior IT Systems Administrator

Job Summary

 

Leads team and oversees initiatives that support Information Technology (IT) systems, services, and infrastructure. Coordinates upgrades, monitors system performance, documents procedures, and prepares related reports and analyses. Supports strategic planning and develops IT solutions by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Essential Functions

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Senior IT Systems Administrator. This position will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing and expanding the current dept IT infrastructure, which includes multiple servers (on-premises and remote) running different operating systems, RAID storage systems, disk-based backup systems, and dedicated networks. The IT Systems Administrator will be responsible for defining the automation of all tasks required to keep systems operational while maximizing uptime. Position will oversee and be responsible for hardware, software and services selection, hardware assembly, OS and software installation, configuration, deployment, maintenance and end user support. Position is responsible for selecting between on-premises, remote or cloud based solutions. The position will provide IT consultation and support for PMR labs and collaborating experimental groups to spec and build experimental computing devices and assure a smooth integration of networked experimental machines. As such, the position will regularly interface with coworkers from different disciplines, ranging from bioengineering, mechanics and medicine and must be able to communicate effectively and assure that support actions are documented in a detailed way so that support costs can be captured and appropriately charged. The Senior IT Systems Administrator will also oversee desktop support for the department and serve as the primary interface between department personnel and Pitt and UPMC IT departments. Will be responsible for implementing appropriate IT related controls to minimize security risks, prevent misuse of university hardware/software, and assure compliance with University IT related policies and procedures. Also responsible for development and oversight of the department's customer information security plan as it relates to the security of electronic data. Will advise department leadership on hardware acquisition, network integration, storage access and security requirements, and implement approved solutions within budgetary constraints. Department leadership will rely on this position for independent oversight of the department's IT infrastructure and each single lab's IT operations with the expectation of leadership and vision to keep improving the IT infrastructure and adopt new University compliant solutions and
