Carnegie Mellon University Summer Intern - School of Computer Science - HCII in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2021687 The Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII) is a living laboratory where we investigate the relationship between computer technology, human activity, and society. Founded in 1993, the HCII is a place where we work to understand and create technology that harmonizes with and improves human capabilities, goals, and social environments through interdisciplinary research and education in design, computer science, and behavioral and social sciences. We research how people work, play, and communicate within groups, organizations, and social structures, then we design, create, and evaluate technologies and tools to support human and social activities.

Intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) are online learn-by-doing activities with step-by-step coaching--a bit like a human tutor. They are very effective in helping students learn, so we'd like to broaden their use in the real world. How can we make them super easy to create?

Our CTAT authoring tools support non-programmers in creating ITSs. In order to make it easier to build tutors in teams-so that developers or teachers could share work on them, we've moved our authoring tools into the browser, using the Vue.js framework. We are looking for students who can help us improve and extend this browser-based version of CTAT.

Inclusion and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU. Therefore, we are in search of a team member who can effectively interact with a varied population of diverse audiences. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work.
