Naval Air Systems Command IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN) in Point Mugu, California

Responsibilities You will support all the systems within the Sea Range Systems Division as a Networks and System Administrator (SA) and have working knowledge of Cybersecurity. You will operate within a team of engineers, technicians, scientists and IT professionals to accomplish projects and support ongoing operations. You will assist in the project management, design, procurement, integration, maintenance of new and existing IT systems. You will will support system owners, developers, and users by managing software updates, STIGS, patching, scanning, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. You will perform system administrative tasking in a dynamic environment of legacy and modern technology including embedded software, Windows-based systems, VMware suite, and in-house software platforms. You will create scripts, tools, processes to improve efficiency, functionality, and capacity of enterprise classified and unclassified environments. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. DS-05: In addition to experience demonstrating the four competencies above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band (GS 11-12 or DS-04) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an IT Specialist (SYSANALYSIS). Specialized experience must include the following: 1) Identifying, distributing, and balancing the workload and tasks among employees to accommodate the work flow and team members' skill levels and technical specializations and to ensure that each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product; 2) Developing new interpretations and procedures, which extend existing procedures and may result in precedents for others to follow; 3) Providing expertise to others on unique and controversial problems; 4) Supporting system owners, developers, and users by managing software updates, STIGS, patching, scanning, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. DS-04: In addition to experience demonstrating the four competencies above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band (GS 9-10 or DS-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an IT Specialist (SYSANALYSIS). Specialized experience must include the following: 1) Performing technical research assignments, maintains equipment, drafts technical reports, and responds to other miscellaneous requests; 2) Assisting in the project management, design, procurement, integration, maintenance of new and existing IT systems; 3) Creating scripts, tools, processes to improve efficiency, functionality, and capacity of enterprise classified and unclassified environments. DS-03: In addition to experience demonstrating the four competencies above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band (GS 5-8 or DS-02) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an IT Specialist (SYSANALYSIS). Specialized experience must include the following: 1) Assisting in performing technical research assignments, maintains equipment, drafts technical reports, and responds to other miscellaneous requests; 2) Helping create scripts, tools, processes to improve efficiency, functionality, and capacity of enterprise classified and unclassified environments; 3) Suggest new ways to accomplish objectives and adapt existing techniques and equipment to new users. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education The following education may be substituted in lieu of specialized experience: DS-04 Level: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. DS-03 Level: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
