Civil Construction Site Foreman

This position works directly with the Superintendent and Project Manager to deliver results that meet and exceed our customer's expectations.  The Foreman is responsible for directly leading specialized excavation and pipe crews to perform the necessary work designated by project management.

Requirements

  • Five to seven (5-7) years' experience as a Construction Foreman, with a strong background in Civil Construction including installation of Sanitary Sewer, Waterline and Stormwater management systems.
  • Understand means and methods of construction associated with Civil Construction earthwork and site utility construction, including excavation, grading, and erosion control.
  • Recognize the sequencing of work and adherence to project schedules.
  • Able to effectively perform and oversee crews work activities to achieve levels of productivity that meet or exceed industry norms.
  • Excellent communication skills with crew and management.
  • Extensive knowledge of the trades and the work involved, along with an ability to resolve problems with appropriate and timely decisions.
  • Read and interpret Civil plans, shoot elevations, and set up lasers.
  • Experienced Heavy Equipment operator (Excavators, Bulldozers).
  • Must possess working knowledge or willingness to learn and use company software applications for the purpose of emailing daily reports, safety reports, timekeeping reports, etc.
  • Basic understanding of construction logistics.
  • Familiar with WSDOT specifications and work standards.
  • Understanding of how work (completed) measurements relate to payment applications.
  • Basic understanding of force accounts, minor change and change orders.
  • General understanding of materials submittals process.
  • Understanding of best practice (means & methods) of underground utilities and earthwork tasks.
  • Time tracking and other work requirements for Prevailing Wage jobs.
  • Conversant in all aspects of erosion control and stormwater management.
  • Know how to read civil plans and surveyor staking (lathes).
  • Ability to calculate elevations.
  • Valid Washington Driver's license (CDL beneficial, but not required).

Civil Construction

  • Instruct the crew in methods for correct installation of water pipe, sewer pipe and manholes, per approved plans.
  • Oversee projects to ensure compliance with the scope, schedule, and quality as established by contract documents.
  • Manage the permit compliance and inspection process.
  • Implement incremental project schedules to ensure upcoming events are on track and are being proactively addressed.

Employee Supervision

  • Delegate tasks and accountabilities, instruct, supervise, lead and direct base crew.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.

Administration

  • Report on work progress by maintaining daily progress reports and paperwork, such as daily field reports, including photographs of work progress, equipment time reporting, schedule updates and email correspondence to keep personnel involved with the project informed of critical issues, and identify potential Change Order requirements in a timely manner.

Safety

  • Review safe work plans/hazard assessments with crew prior to job commencement.
  • Work with the Safety Officer to investigate damage, incidents, or near-misses in the worksite.
