Pay Rate :

$152,300 - $203,000

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short –term incentive plan.

The Finished Products BUM is the leader of the paper machine, warehousing, shipping departments, and recycle plant at a large, fully-integrated Pulp and Paper mill and reports directly to the operations manager. There are approximately 18 salaried and 148 hourly employees under the leadership of this position. The Finished Products Business Unit consists of two linerboard machines, a warehouse, and an OCC plant. This position is responsible for safety, employee engagement, department one to ones, hourly and salaried team development, process productivity, efficiency, reliability, department financial performance to include cost management and annual budgeting, paper quality, customer relationships, and capital planning. Responsibilities will also include the direction of technical resources and process experts who support the business unit.

The Job You Will Perform:

The Finished Products BUM will work closely with a variety of different leaders within the department and mill to deliver on the following responsibilities:

Display safety leadership above all things and at all times and ensure the highest expectations are in place with respect to environmental compliance

Support 5S program for the area and drive improvement projects, audit systems, and excellent results

  • Conduct one to one developmental discussions and coach employees to accomplish team goals, ensuring proper and consistent accountability processes are in place within the department

  • Engage team in achieving individual, team, department, mill, and company goals; manage plans to ensure the leaders and crews have ownership and feel valued within the organization

  • Actively build and maintain strong relationships with union representatives for the department and mill

  • Manage and deliver on detailed list of objectives that support mill goals for safety, environment, financial, capital and reliability, with a strong focus on results

  • Coordinate and communicate with mill operations, maintenance, engineering, and management personnel on a day-to-day basis while performing duties

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to operations by working with the other business units to balance operations for the good of the mill

  • Participate and lead as a member of the mill lead team and people development council

  • Ensure active and effective training processes in place

  • Lead and deliver results through Global Manufacturing System based processes and systems

  • Understand, promote, and deliver results on reliability systems to deliver on year-over-year (YOY) improvement goals for reliability

  • Ensure outage processes in place to deliver on department and mill routine and annual outage objectives

  • Understand, promote and deliver results for Manufacturing Excellence (ME) tools and processes; participate and lead ME improvement initiatives in the department

  • Provide direct (personal) and department support for and participation in the mill’s structured cost reduction efforts/teams

  • Manage department capital plan and coordinate priorities within the overall mill capital plan

  • Ensure effective management of change process (MOC) to eliminate unintended change related issues

  • Facilitate the implementation of new procedures and controls required by the change in facilities, products, and corporate policies and procedures

  • Provide support for budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year over year savings

  • Work closely with the Global Sourcing organization within the facility and company to identify and deliver on key sourcing drivers to maximize the value of services delivered to both the facility and the company

  • Serve in a leadership role for the mill during weekend duty rotation

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Eight (8) years of experience in a Pulp and Paper mill with at least five (5) years of management experience is required.

  • Five (5) years of paper machine operations experience preferred; other business unit management experience would be considered.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other related field is required.
