POSITION SUMMARY

CVS Health Digital is seeking a dynamic and driven Senior Engineering Manager with a backend technical leadership focus. This role involves leading an engineering team to deliver best-in-class experience through complex enterprise initiatives in collaboration with business stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Digital Engineering, you will spearhead digital transformation initiatives and drive the delivery of our digital products. In this role you will

  • Leadership and Team management – Manage, support, and technically advise team members. Conduct performance reviews and foster collaboration.

  • Engineering Efforts – Work with Product and stakeholders on various teams. Prioritize and shape enterprise initiatives.

  • Technical Guidance – Lead end-to-end delivery of back-end applications. Implement data-driven solutions from a product perspective.

Expected KPI's For This Role

  • Hiring new development staff

  • Overseeing each aspect of the development process, and function as the liaison between your team and upper management

  • Grow engineering teams by continuously guiding, coaching, and mentoring engineers.

  • Provide leadership for Digital initiatives.

  • Take ownership of tasks, provide estimates and clearly communicate objectives to the team.

What You Are Known For

  • Your technical expertise with tools such as Spring boot, Java, Kotlin, Kafka, Cassandra, Cloud Native technologies, GraphQL (Apollo/GraphQL federation)

  • Your ability to adopt, optimize, and measure API performance and speed metrics (best practices)

  • Your contributions to the Event Driven Design

  • Your collaboration skills with key stakeholders in solutioning with product, architecture, and development teams

  • You are proficient at guiding, coaching and mentoring engineers.

  • Your data driven approach to management and measuring performance defects and the solutions you have implemented to resolve them.

  • Good understanding of SRE, Engineering or Operations practices

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of overall IT/Digital Backend development experience on enterprise class applications

  • 4+ years leading / managing teams with direct reports with additionally experience in leading medium to large sized teams of diverse development engineers across multiple locations.

  • 2+ years partnering with architecture, product, and program management teams to influence product development assisting or improving products, Microservices, and API's

  • 4+ years of backend technologies, such as Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Cassandra, and large public cloud technologies with AWS, or GCP, GraphQL (Apollo knowledge is a plus)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing multiple work streams and dependencies

  • Be able to identify a vision along with the plans, which need to be implemented to meet the end goal, evaluating situations, decisions, and issues in the short, medium, and long term

  • Influence and persuade - able to present sound and well-reasoned arguments to convince others. Adapt to the situation and can draw from a range of strategies to persuade people in a way that results in agreement or behavior change

  • Expert knowledge with functional, imperative, and object-oriented languages and methodologies

  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies

  • Experience with SAFE development methodologies.

  • Individually motivated to be able to see the big picture and prioritize their work to make the largest impact on the business and customers vision and requirements.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$124,372.50 - $247,200.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
