PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This role helps to build, transform, and maintain data systems and data integrity, by cleaning, structuring, and formatting collected data from various systems and aggregating it into a format that can be easily analyzed. This position works closely with the Business Intelligence (BI) and Software Engineering teams of the Data and Engineering group. The Data Engineer would be working on multiple data projects, interacting with multiple cross-functional teams. The Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams. The Data Engineer must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Builds and maintains optimal and scalable data systems and pipelines.

  2. Assemble large, complex data sets, from multiple sources, that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.

  3. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.

  4. Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and 'big data' technologies.

  5. Understands data flow between various systems and monitors daily jobs, troubleshoots issues in data flow as they occur and communicates the issues and resolutions with internal and external team.

  6. Works with Business Intelligence to implement data control for more effective data collection and storage, as well as performing strategies to optimize the efficiency and quality of the data being collected.

  7. Implements processes and systems to monitor data quality, ensuring that production data is always accurate and available for reporting and analytical purposes.

  8. Responsible for developing and implementing test plans and scripts for various data quality processes.

  9. Identifies data fields, their usage, rules and define quality control around it and evaluates datasets for accuracy and quality.

  10. Performs source system data analysis to manage source to target data mapping.

  11. Provides ongoing reports on the effects of different strategies and observes any trends or issues to raise with senior management.

  12. Leverages SQL queries or ad Hoc method to perform above tasks.

  13. Performs reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts.

  14. Remains up to date with industry standards and technological advancements that will improve the quality of your outputs.

  15. Responsible for ensuring SQL object permissions across different teams to limit access to only what is needed and approved.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Aptitude to understand data, map it across multiple systems, identify and correct quality issues.

  • Ability to quickly become familiar with the Bank's database framework, and the sources and uses of data.

  • Ability to build and optimize data sets, data pipelines and architecture, including big data.

  • Ability to work in Multiple Cloud environment.

  • Understand visualization tools (ex: Power BI) used by the Bank for business intelligence analytics and reporting.

  • Aptitude to gain familiarity & knowledge of database architecture, coding, and logic.

  • Process oriented with great documentation skills.

  • Excellent analytics skills associated with structured and unstructured datasets.

  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work in Agile Software Development environment.

  • Ability to learn new languages and technologies.

  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills are required.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field required.

  • 2+ years' experience as Data Engineer or related field required.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

  • Experience in managing and communicating data warehouse plans to internal clients.

  • Experience with schema design and dimensional data modeling preferred.

  • Experience in Fiserv Premier or similar Banking system preferred.

  • Will interact with a range of bank employees at a variety of seniority levels.
