ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

PUBLIC WORKS: The vision of the Department of Public Works is to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective facilities and services to the residents of Shasta County.The Department's 154 employees are responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of county roads, bridges, buildings, and water and wastewater facilities.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under direction of management, implement the Department of Public Works injury and illness prevention program and code of safety practices including researching and applying state and federal workplace safety requirements; developing and implementing workplace safety trainings; tracking workplace safety records; and performing onsite safety inspections.

AGENCY STAFF SERVICES ANALYST I: Under direction, to perform a variety of administrative and fiscal analysis work and participate in special studies or projects as related to workplace safety; to perform related work as required.

AGENCY STAFF SERVICES ANALYST II:Under direction, to perform data analyses, develop data collection systems, assess and disseminate information, participate in special studies or projects, and develop policy implications/recommendations of analyzed informationas related to workplace safety; to perform related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

AGENCY STAFFSERVICES* ANALYST I*: This position is responsible to Public Works Supervisors and Management for administering the Department of Public Works existing workplace safety program. Duties will include researching and applying state and federal workplace safety requirements; developing and implementing workplace safety trainings; tracking workplace safety records; and performing onsite safety inspections.

AGENCY STAFFSERVICES* ANALYST II*: This position is responsible to Public Works Supervisors and Management for administering the Department of Public Works existing workplace safety program. Duties will include researching and applying state and federal workplace safety requirements; developing and implementing workplace safety trainings; tracking workplace safety records; and performing onsite safety inspections.This position is distinguished from the Agency Staff Services Analyst I by applicable experience and its responsibility for more complex projects and its enhanced level of computer savvy and data management skills.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-motivated, and has a strong attention to detail. This individual will have the ability to multi-task and manage competing pri rities. Knowledge of, or a desire to learn about workplace safety and construction practices is required. Many functions of the Department of Public Works involve construction activities and trades, being comfortable observing workplace practices in construction environments is vital to this role. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable conducting in-person trainings and presentations to small groups.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

AGENCY STAFF SERVICES ANALYSTI: Gathers, tabulates, and analyzes data; draws organization, workload and other charts; prepares reports and makes recommendations on procedures, policies and program alternatives; makes recommendations on financial, personnel, client and other administrative systems; monitors contracts; writes a variety of complex reports; orders supplies; prepares correspondence; and may assist in the supervision of staff.

AGENCY STAFFSERVICES* ANALYST II*:Collects, enters, validates, extracts, and analyzes data on current issues of concern; designs data collection methodology; draws logical conclusions from analyzed data and makes recommendations on procedures, policies, and program alternatives; develops "user-friendly" reports or otherwise prepares data for dissemination; conducts reviews of program data to assess outcome impact and cost effectiveness; assists department staff in gathering and entering information into data systems; works with and assists in maintaining the integrity and reliability of existing database or other software programs, to analyze, collect and display information; plans and develops software applications to link programs; may assist in improving the Department's ability to assess outcomes; participates in program evaluation study design and implementation; conducts reviews of existing programs to assess outcome impact, work load distribution, or cost-effectiveness; may make recommendations on financial, personnel, client, program, community or administrative systems, as assigned; prepares correspondence and may assist in the development or preparation of proposals for state, federal or private foundations; and may assist in the supervision of staff.
