As a Senior Applied Scientist on Image Search, you will lead the team to develop machine learning models and backend components that drive our Image product. The team provides text classification models, ranking, prominence estimation models, representative image selection, as well as recommendations and insights to product roadmap and strategy.

We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist with a background in Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Causal Inference, Data Science, Data Mining, or related fields. Candidates should be passionate about artificial intelligence and optimization at web scale. They will play a key role in driving algorithmic improvements to online and offline systems, develop and deliver robust and scalable solutions, make direct impact to both user and advertisers experience, and continually improve our KPIs.

Your team’s work is a key driver of growth of the product, impacting billions of searches on Bing and across Microsoft products. You will work closely with the product team and business stakeholders to scale the solutions to all languages and regions around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments to measure the impact of new ML models and product features

  • Collect data, train models, and evaluate quality and performance.

  • Design and implement feature generation pipelines.

  • Design and implement metrics.

  • Participate in data-driven decisions for feature prioritization and delivery

  • Collaborate with product team and other organizations within Microsoft to deliver success

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ year's experience delivering, scaling, and owning highly successful and innovative machine learning products.

  • 4+ years experience in any of the following areas: statistical machine learning, deep learning, data mining, causal inference, information retrieval, game theory, mechanism design, optimization and Bayesian inference.

  • Experience working through full product cycles from initial design to final product delivery.

  • Have a good understanding of state-of-the-art natural language processing, machine learning and deep learning technologies. In particular, hands-on experiences with deep learning models (DNN, Attention, CNN, RNN) and frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.) will be very helpful.

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
