Microsoft Corporation Technical Program Manager II in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind building the Microsoft cloud. Within CO+I, the Datacenter Planning & eXecution Engineering (DPXE) team is responsible for delivering engineering ecosystem for the datacenter capacity delivery business for Microsoft’s cloud. We have a portfolio of complex, multi-disciplinary, multi-million, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects with specific safety, quality, schedule, cost, and sustainability goals.

The Capacity Delivery Planning and Execution (DPX) Engineering team is responsible for architecting, designing, and building the next generation of connected systems and tools using microservices architecture to help manage and support critical business functions such as Cost, Schedule, Networking, Land/Lease, Energy, Construction, Commissioning, Procurement, Safety, Sustainability, Planning etc. in a real time manner. The team has a charter to deliver against the NorthStar goal of building robust automation for these functions through well engineered systems and at the same time design and build the next gen, AI/ML based, recommendation engine to enable cost and schedule modeling, supply planning, execution planning etc. while integrating with the bigger CO+I ecosystem.

If so, we are looking for you to join the Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) Engineering team as a Technical Program Manager. This team, working closely with our Software Engineering and Business teams, builds, and runs a portfolio of solutions to digitize datacenter procurement, supply chain, and construction with specific safety, quality, schedule, cost, and sustainability goals.

In this role, you will drive Materials Management solutions to transform and digitize our processes focusing on Data Center Construction & Lease Projects by integrating end-to-end processes with efficient and sustainable practices. This includes optimizing inventory management, streamlining procurement workflows, and ensuring the efficient use of resources. As part of this team, you will help to define and drive a charter to deliver against the NorthStar goal of building robust automation for Materials Management functions, which will contribute to attaining Microsoft's committed goals for Data Center Infrastructure. To achieve this, you will help build the next generation of solutions, integrating AI/ML-based recommendation engines to enhance operational efficiency. This will enable precise data analysis for better decision-making, automate reporting for increased transparency, and optimize resource management, all while aligning with the broader CO+I engineering ecosystem.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

As a Technical Program Manager II, your mission is to develop and execute cutting-edge solutions for Materials Management for our CO+I Organization. As the TPM II, you’ll lead projects from planning to delivery by working closely with business stakeholders and engineers across CO+I engineering. Lead project initiatives, drive end to end digital transformation to implement state-of-art processes & tools and remain accountable for the targeted business outcomes. As part of this role/responsibility you will own building the vision for the business area, driving discussions, and participating in defining the to-be state for business processes and building the engineering roadmap, owning and driving the engineering execution by working closely with engineering leads and the business teams. Develop a clear product roadmap balancing business, technical, and experience considerations. Manage data migration, provide guidance, monitor progress, stay abreast of industry trends, and foster a culture of data stewardship and collaboration. Elevate the Industry with impeccable Materials Management - For Goods and Services - Source to Pay processes for new data center build and data center operations by building solutions and tools for greater climate impact.

  • You will identify complex opportunities and gaps across multiple product and service feature areas, then collaborate with other departments to evaluate opportunity, define solution options, and propose a roadmap.

  • You will partner with Business and Software Engineering to design technical solutions across feature areas. You’ll also identify risks and propose data-based mitigations.

  • You’ll define success criteria and create relationships for implementing features for complex cross-functional projects. You’ll coordinate and ensure alignment across organizations.

  • You will deliver on roadmap for multiple feature groups, track project schedules, develop staging and implementation plan, and manage programs governance.

  • You will drive continuous improvements by validating use cases and writing test cases. You’ll also lead teams to partner with other departments to collect performance metrics, drive customer support, and lead direct customer / user engagements.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • 4+ years experience and delivering 2+ end-to-end Implementation projects using SAP S/4, Dynamics 365, SAP MDG, SAP Ariba, SAP Ariba Supply Chain Collaboration.

  • Knowledge and experience in Materials Managment - Sourcing, Contracting and procurement processes for materials / services.

  • Technical background in Procurement tools such as SAP S/4 HANA, Microsoft Dynamics, other enterprise resource planning (ERP) and master data management systems (SAP MDG) and Middleware.

  • 2+ Years Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) industry process knowledge and experience in Supply Chain, along with change management, training, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.

  • 2+ Expertise in Material Management, cross module integration touch points with Master Data, Planning. Integration skills to develop functional specifications for integration with other SAP/Non-SAP Applications

  • Analytical skills to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Ability to diagnose and guide teams to troubleshoot issues, solve complex problems, and propose innovative solutions.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

  • Experience with data integration, APIs, and cloud-based solutions.

Technical Program Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
