Summary About the Position: This position is with the United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) at Redstone Arsenal, AL. The incumbent will serve as the personal secretary and office manager for SMDC, Deputy to the Commanding General Office. SMDC is participating in an alternate personnel system known as the Acquisition Demonstration Project (AcqDemo). Responsibilities Monitors administrative and clerical functions to advise staff members on changes to programs. Serves as the primary point of contact for the Deputy to the Commanding General (DCG) calendar with authority to commit. Uses advanced functions of Office Automation Software to create documents. Coordinates scheduling with offices of staff leaders, subordinate commanders, prominent civilian and government leaders including congressmen and foreign dignitaries. Composes such as memorandums and forms to serve as correspondent of Command Staff and subordinate elements. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Performing clerical and administrative duties in support of office management such as receiving and making telephone calls, preparing or reviewing correspondence such as notes, letters, memorandums, reports, or briefings, scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, and making travel arrangements; And Utilizing office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NK-02/GS-07). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and Management Clerical Computer Skills Manages and Organizes Information Written Communication Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
