About the Opportunity

Clean Harbors is seeking a General Manager to lead operations at one of our mission-critical Wastewater Treatment Facilities . This is a high-impact leadership role overseeing day-to-day operations, compliance, employee management, financial performance, and customer service.

This position is ideal for a seasoned wastewater professional with a proven ability to lead teams, manage complex operations, and ensure regulatory and safety compliance in an industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities Facility Operations & Compliance

  • Manage daily operations to meet Clean Harbors’ compliance and performance standards.

  • Ensure processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste is in full compliance with RCRA, DOT, DTSC, POTW, and client requirements.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of site-specific wastewater treatment technologies.

Labor Management & Staffing

  • Lead all aspects of staffing: scheduling, hiring, performance reviews, and corrective actions.

  • Oversee labor relations and ensure compliance with workers’ compensation regulations.

  • Recommend employee promotions and merit increases.

Health & Safety

  • Enforce company and facility-specific Health & Safety protocols and SOPs.

  • Co-chair safety meetings and collaborate with EHS teams to uphold best practices.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Partner with the Facility Compliance Manager to maintain all permits and meet regulatory standards.

  • Ensure readiness for audits and inspections at all times.

Financial Management

  • Manage the facility’s P&L, including labor, materials, supplies, and SG&A expenses.

  • Approve facility purchases and ensure accurate and timely billing processes.

Customer Service & Logistics

  • Collaborate with National Logistics to manage outbound waste.

  • Ensure high-level service delivery to internal and external clients.

Training & Development

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to all facility employees.

  • Foster a strong culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Maintenance & Facility Oversight

  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs (e.g., Mapcon).

  • Maintain a clean, professional, and audit-ready facility.

Required Qualifications – Applicants Must Meet All Criteria

  • 5–7+ years of experience in wastewater treatment or environmental facility operations

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science , Business , or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Strong working knowledge of RCRA , DOT , DTSC , and POTW regulations

  • Proven experience in plant management, budget oversight, and compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams

Additional Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and operational systems

  • Experience with health & safety protocols and SOP implementation

  • Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • On-site oversight of plant operations (approx. 4–6 hours per day)

  • Occasional lifting of items (up to 10 lbs)

  • Standard computer use and administrative duties

  • Must meet vision and hearing standards for plant safety

  • May require operating a car or small truck for facility needs
