Vail Resorts Software Architect in Remote, United States

Job Summary

The Resort Application Development team partners with many stakeholders throughout Vail Resorts to deliver technical solutions that allow our business to deliver on the mission of Experience of a Lifetime ™.

Our systems provide a platform for point-of-sale, payment processing, e-commerce, and various aspects of managing our portfolio of mountain resorts. In some cases, we work with both the software and hardware involved in bringing a solution to life.

We work primarily with C#, .NET, SQL, Angular and WPF, but we also have some smaller usage of other technologies.

As a Software/Solutions Architect on the team, you would be involved in solving problems with business leaders, writing code with development teams, designing build & deployment pipelines, and collaborating with your peers to guide the future of our technology ecosystem.

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive the creation of software solutions that are secure, reliable, scalable, and performant while collaborating with business and technical stakeholders

  • Assess software projects to help provide an estimation of timeline and budget requirements

  • Collaborate with developers to provide guidance and technical expertise while helping teams work toward a shared end goal

  • Communicate complex technical concepts to many different audiences

  • Contribute as part of a team that may include people from all levels of the organization

  • Build relationships across departments and influence critical decisions that impact the Vail Resorts technology ecosystem

  • Help define a technical roadmap and establish a long-term strategy for the architectural direction of our systems

  • Ensure solutions are designed in alignment with the technical roadmap

  • Proactively improve the software development experience and process for our teams

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support our critical systems

Job Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience as a technical leader (ideally a development team lead or architect)

  • Significant experience developing production applications in C# (or similar)

  • Significant experience working with relational databases like MS SQL Server

  • Experience developing in a modern JavaScript/TypeScript project

  • Experience building web-based APIs

  • Ability to guide developers toward writing quality code and valuable tests

  • Strong understanding of different SDLC models, with an emphasis on Agile

Preferred Skills

  • Experience designing or maintaining build & deployment pipelines with tools like GitHub Actions and Octopus Deploy

  • Strong knowledge of using Git for source control

  • Familiarity with the Atlassian suite (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, etc.)

  • Experience building Enterprise software on an international scale

  • Previous work with point-of-sale or payment processing systems

  • Familiarity with containers and container orchestration platforms

  • Familiarity with Azure or another cloud provider

  • Familiarity with SOX and PCI Compliance

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $120,000 - $140,000 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
