This is a job for a  Staff Accountant position with a company located in the Ridgeland, MS area.

Our company focuses on special mission aviation programs critical to national security and the public interest including, but not limited to: aerial fire suppression, aerial intelligence gathering and airborne data acquisition.

Description:POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the person in this position will be responsible for supporting the Company's accounts payable processes as well as the overall finance and accounting function.

General responsibilities: Follow the established policies, procedures, compliance and controls for all financial systems and records. Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of accounts payable and other accounting duties. Ensure compliance with GAAP. Perform ongoing general ledger maintenance and month-end close tasks. Support recurring audits by providing supporting documentation to auditors. Support the preparation of annual income tax returns by providing requested data. Support special projects as needed. Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting and perform other ad hoc tasks as needed. Maintain a strong knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and industry trends.

Specific responsibilities: Accounts Payable. Enter accounts payable invoices for multiple entities in a timely manner. Ensure accurate posting to the correct general ledger account, job, class, and entity. Maintain accounts payable aging and address timely any aged payable issues. Reconcile vendor statements monthly. Set up new vendors and maintain vendor records. Assist with the preparation and filing of 1099s. General Ledger Accounting Prepare and post general ledger journal entries. Prepare reconciliations and prepare and post journal entries in support of month-end close. All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements Level:SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. High level of accuracy. Team player. Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment and meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Strong PC skills, including proficiency in accounting software and the Microsoft Office Suite.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting required or equivalent experience. Minimum five years' experience in accounting roles, preferably as a Staff Accountant required. Experience with Concur preferred. Experience with ERP systems preferred. Federal government contract experience a plus. Familiarity with LLC accounting structure a plus. Experience with multiple legal entities and intercompany transactions a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. High frequency of computer keyboarding and viewing a computer monitor. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is a salaried position. The typical work schedule is a standard 40-hour work week.

TRAVEL: Minimal travel is required as needed.
