Boeing is seeking a Senior Materials & Processes Nondestructive Evaluation Engineer to join the Manufacturing Technology Integration team at our Ridley Park, Pennsylvania site in the greater Philadelphia area.

This position will support the CH-47, V-22, and F/A-18 production programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops complex manufacturing, quality, and in-service Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE)/measurement procedures and techniques by analyzing damage scenarios, selecting appropriate NDE/measurement technologies, and writing and validating procedures to facilitate effective NDE/measurement structural inspections and ensure a reliable fleet/product

  • Designs reference standards and hardware related to NDE/measurement procedures to facilitate procedure application and performance

  • Coordinates with relevant engineering groups and customers to ensure engineering requirements are met

  • Guides the application and direction of procedure development to ensure consistent and appropriate use of NDE and measurement systems

  • Mentors new NDE/measurement employees regarding the processes, tools, and resources involved in the development of new procedures

  • Evaluates technology and/or supplier equipment through research and testing to ensure adherence to Boeing specifications and/or performance requirements

  • Documents results via information reports to communicate capability for NDE and measurement applications across business units

  • Expands an established network of contacts within the NDE and measurement community to include customers and suppliers to share evaluation results and conclusions

  • Reviews supplier and/or sub-contractor processes and control methods by interpreting a variety of documents (e.g., proposals, Specification Control Drawings, Producibility Guides, Manufacturing Production Control Drawings, Supplier drawings and specifications, Process Control Documents)

  • Performs on-site supplier assessments to determine suitability of supplied parts and materials for use in existing Boeing products and/or Research and Development activities

  • Performs analysis of on-site assessment results to determine recommendations

  • Communicates recommendations to senior decision makers for final disposition

  • Leads the implementation of new measurement/sensor, equipment monitoring, and of new measurement/sensor, equipment monitoring, and NDE/measurement technology systems in Boeing facilities/subcontractors to ensure product and process improvement

  • Serves as a subject matter expert to management regarding implementation issues and recommendations

  • Troubleshoots complex product or process implementations to determine root cause and provide recommendations for problem resolution

  • Monitors the installation of new measurement/sensor, equipment monitoring, and NDE/measurement technology to ensure compliance with product or process requirements. Provides training to customers regarding the use of the new product or process

  • Develops qualification/certification requirements (e.g., Non-Destructive Evaluation) for personnel (e.g., Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering) by creating tests and establishing training criteria and certification duration in order to ensure personnel safety, product integrity, and/or regulatory compliance

  • Assists in the oversight of the NDE personnel certification program by administering exams and maintaining records to ensure NDE personnel meet job qualifications and regulatory compliance

  • Achieves NDE Level III certification in the appropriate Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) discipline

  • Leads the development and maintenance of process specifications (e.g., NDE/measurement, Boeing) using engineering requirements and collaborating with key technical personnel from major divisions

  • Represents the NDE or Measurement group as a contact to internal and external customers and suppliers regarding process specifications

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Ridley Park, PA site.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Qualified NAS 410 NDT Level 3 with ASNT Qualifications in a minimum of two of the following NDE disciplines: Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Ultrasonic (UT), Radiography (RT), Eddy Current (ET), Infrared Thermography (IRT).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience developing nondestructive testing procedures within a production or laboratory environment

  • Experience implementing new non-destructive evaluation (NDE) equipment in a production environment

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $150,450 - $203,550
