Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The role involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, and explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
Decontaminate and update patient information.
Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts accurately.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperature and protocol.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in geriatrics and pediatrics.
Customer service experience.
Patient care experience.
Data entry skills.
2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist required.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
