This position supports Finance staff in processing accounts payable, payroll, and business expenses for the Metro District ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, statutes, rules, union contracts, and policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Accounting sufficient to reconcile differences between invoices, receipts, and purchase orders, and assess needs based on data and events affecting the accounting.

  • Knowledge of math sufficient to maintain complete and accurate financial records and balance and resolve discrepancies in areas like determining eligibility, level of benefits and/or payroll.

  • Math skills sufficient to calculate totals, averages, and percentages of numbers and/or data.

  • Data entry skills sufficient to read source documents, compare documents to database information, and edit documents.

  • Skill in using spreadsheet applications, such as Microsoft Excel, to enter, compile, store, and retrieve data.

  • Customer service skills sufficient to respond effectively to clients, coworkers, and customers who have questions about agency operations and procedures (in person, in writing, on the phone, and through presentations and other electronic correspondence).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting or Finance.

  • Knowledge and experience processing payroll in a large, complex payroll system, such as the state's SEMA4 payroll system, MnDOT's RCA computerized timesheet program or similar system.

  • Knowledge of different labor union contracts, MnDOT policies and procedures, Minnesota Management and Budget policies and procedures; Fair Labor Standards Act, Workers Compensation and the Family Medical Leave Act for payroll purposes.

  • Knowledge and experience processing Accounts Payable working in SWIFT, or other large accounting system.
