The Mahoney House is searching for an energetic, empathetic person to implement our services and programs, advocate for survivors, and help carry out the organization\'s mission. The ideal candidate is a communicator, organizer, and self-starter. Advocacy requires perseverance and a sense of humor as we work collaboratively to tackle tough issues. A passion for creating social change is a must!

Advocate Responsibilities

  • Work directly with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and neglect, e.g., safety planning, housing/shelter assistance, court appearances, referrals to appropriate resources and services
  • Answer phone calls, assist walk-in clients, and perform other administrative duties
  • Take turns carrying and responding to our 24-hour crisis hotline phone
  • Ensure quality data reporting in online systems
  • Promote The Mahoney Houses programs, classes, and services
  • Communicate and network with local, state, and federal agencies in support of The Mahoney Houses mission and objectives
  • Participate in training opportunities offered to law enforcement, prosecutors, attorneys, medical personnel, and community members
  • Travel to occasional conferences and meetings as required

  • Communication across cultural and educational barriers
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Valid drivers license and current proof of vehicle insurance
  • Occasional multiday travel for offsite meetings, training, and conferences

  • Public speaking about difficult topics
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  • Business-related social media experience
  • Grant writing experience

Starting wage \$18/hr
